Fillings
The durable fillings offered by Anderson Dental in Rapid City SD are made of the most advanced materials currently available:
- Composite fillings: made from a tooth-colored resin that has superior durability compared to traditional fillings
- Porcelain fillings: made from an extremely hard ceramic material that is custom-molded to the shape of your tooth
- Silver (amalgam) fillings
Because we can match the material used to the color of your tooth, fillings made of composite and porcelain are virtually unnoticeable. Cavities are filled anywhere from 30 minutes or more, depending on the number of fillings being completed at your visit.
KCP (Kinetic Cavity Preparation) = Gentle Care
Whenever possible, Anderson Dental in Rapid City SD utilizes an innovative instrument that can be used as an alternative to the drill in many procedures, and can be used with little or no tooth anesthesia. A microscopically fine powder of food safe particles – long used in medicine, food and several popular whitening toothpastes – is used to gently spray away decay. Only a tiny amount of this microscopically fine powder is actually used in each procedure and most of it is immediately removed by our evacuation system.
This technology allows us to treat decay at an earlier stage without as much removal of healthy tooth material, preserving the strength of the tooth. Teeth treated this way may be less likely to require dental crowns in the future.
Treatment with the KCP is often used without anesthetic. This allows us to treat patients who are pregnant or medically compromised. With the KCP, we can often treat children without the two things they fear most: the needle and the drill.
Dental Sealants
Hard to clean areas of your teeth can be protected from tooth decay by the application of a dental sealant. This durable sealant material is applied and hardened, filling deep crevices to prevent bacteria buildup. This preventative procedure is especially effective at protecting against tooth decay and other bacteria-related issues for children and adolescents.
Dental Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride rinses are an essential part of maintaining your dental health. Part of our routine exam services, medical-strength fluoride treatments applied by our experienced dental hygienists are a quick and easy way to protect against harmful bacteria and plaque buildup along your teeth and gum line, reducing your risk for developing cavities. We have a variety of fun flavors to choose from!
Custom Athletic Mouth Guard
A properly fitted mouth guard is essential in the prevention of athletic dental injuries. The American Dental Association estimates that mouth guards prevent approximately 200,000 injuries each year in high school and collegiate football. Unfortunately, many over-the-counter mouth guards purchased from sporting goods stores lack important features. An athletic mouth guard must have excellent retention, fit, and sufficient thickness in critical areas, be tear resistant, be odorless and tasteless, and cause minimal interference to speaking and breathing. Dr. Anderson will ensure that your customized athletic mouth guard offers highest degree of protection available.
Oral Cancer Screenings
When oral cancer is caught and treated early, studies have shown that the chance of survival is about 80 to 90 percent. As part of our routine exam, we can help identify potentially carcinogenic abnormalities at their earliest stages and provide you with the best chance for successful cancer treatment. Dr. Anderson is specially trained to detect early warning signs that are not apparent to the untrained eye.
Root Canal Therapy
Root Planing & Scaling
Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical periodontal treatment that is both minimally invasive and cost effective. It involves a careful and extensive cleaning of your gum and tooth root tissues in order to remove harmful plaque buildup contributing to gingivitis and gum disease. This procedure is can help alleviate symptoms of infection and restore health to your gums.
Dental Injuries & Emergencies
Gum Disease Treatment
Periodontal disease, such as gingivitis or periodontitis, is caused by bacteria build up in the mouth. Symptoms can range from red swollen gums to bleeding gums and bad breath. If the gum disease is not treated you may see spaces between the teeth, receding gum tissue, or a loss of teeth. Proper diagnosis and cleanings can successfully treat gum disease at almost any stage. Uncontrolled, this disease can shorten your life!
