Dental Inlays & Dental Onlays
Inlays and Onlays are an alternative to conventional silver and composite fillings in teeth that have large defective fillings, damage from decay, or similar structural damage. In addition, they are more conservative than dental crowns because less healthy tooth material is removed during the preparation process. Dental Inlays and Onlays are highly durable and will last several years.
Whereas conventional fillings are molded into place during a single visit, inlays and onlays usually require two appointments. During your first appointment, we will take impressions of your tooth that will be used to create your custom inlay/onlay and a temporary filling. This temporary filling will be applied to protect the tooth while your inlay is made by a dental laboratory. At your next appointment, Dr. Anderson will carefully fit and bond the material to the damaged tooth, and make any needed adjustments to ensure a proper fit and that your bite is comfortable.
This type of dental restoration is called an “Inlay” when the material is bonded within the center of a tooth. When the restoration requires replacement of one or more cusps (points) of the tooth or full coverage of the biting surface it is called on “Onlay”.
Dental Bonding
Direct Composite Dental Bonding is a quick and relatively inexpensive way to fill cavities, repair chips or cracks, correct staining or discoloration, or to close gaps between widely spaced teeth. The tooth-colored composite materials are directly applied and sculpted to fix problematic areas and achieve a great smile.
Most direct dental bonding treatments can be completed in one dental visit, depending on the restoration required.
Adhesive Dental Bonding refers to attaching a restoration to a tooth using an etchant, a bonding agent, an adhesive and a high intensity curing light. This method is typically used for metal-free dental crowns & bridges, dental veneers, and inlays/onlays.
Tooth-Colored Fillings
Tooth colored fillings are achieved using the dental bonding procedure (see above).
